Frequently asked questions
Q - Is it possible to have a private tour for my family or will I have to join a group?
A - Yes, your tour will be solely for you and your party. I do not combine guests to make up tour groups. My driver guided tours are tailored to what you want to see and do at your own pace. It is really important that you have a truly special time in Orkney.
Q - Where will my party be met and dropped off?
A - I will meet you at your hotel or if you are arriving by ferry or cruise liner at the port.
Q - Can you help us plan where we might go?
A - Certainly, I have many years experience guiding guests and will be very happy to suggest an itinerary that will tick all the boxes. I can make any necessary reservations so all you have to do is enjoy what Orkney has to offer.
Q - We want something quite specific ... a whisky tour, wartime history, archaeological sites, to see felt being made, jewellery workshops. Can you help?
A - I would be delighted to! I will try to ensure that whatever you wish to experience during your time in Orkney is made possible.
Q - Are there extra costs in addition to the quoted tour fee?
A - The quoted tour fee will state clearly what admission charges are included. The tour fee does not include the cost of lunches and refreshments or any workshop /course fees.
Q - We want a tour away from the main attractions. What do you suggest?
A - Orkney has plenty of space and fantastic scenery. I would be pleased to show you some of Orkney's hidden delights which might include visiting one of the many beautiful beaches or RSPB reserves.
Q - What if the weather is dreadful, will you cancel the tour?
A - No. We would not cancel because of bad weather. Because the weather in Orkney can be changeable we advise guests to check the forecast for the day of their tour and ensure they have with them waterproof clothing and appropriate footwear.
Q - Where can we get lunch or snacks and drinks, will you organise it?
A - I will be very happy to book a local restaurant or cafe for lunch. Any specific dietary needs can be catered for. If you want to purchase drinks and snacks we can stop at a number of shops en route.
